Sennheiser RS 180 Digital Wireless Headphones Review – Pros & cons
Pros
The Sennheiser RS 180 Digital Wireless Headphones are part of the Sennheiser RS series featuring KLEER audio technology, which ensures quality stereo sound with little loss and hiss.
The advertised range is 320 feet, though this seems to depend on the location you place the transmitter in (ensure it’s not blocked off by too many objects). Many customers are satisfied with the range on their headphones.
Comfort is an important factor, and most owners are more than satisfied with the comfort provided by this pair of headphones. The plush earpads and well-padded headbands fit snugly onto your head without putting too much pressure.
A main difference between RS 180 and the other RS headphones from Sennheiser is the Automatic Level Control. It automatically adjusts the volume when it detects speech that sounds too soft. If you’ve ever experienced movies where loud explosions are suddenly followed by mumbled talking/whispering you can barely hear, you’ll understand how useful this feature is.
This pair of headphones is pretty popular on sites such as Amazon.com. The following are snippets of 2 customer testimonials there:
“…I have a bunch of wireless devices around the transmitter, two wireless keyboard/mouse adapters, bluetooth, and a wireless router (using both 2.4 and 5 for N). I was able to walk all around my house without these cutting out. I was even able to go outside well into the back yard with only a couple drop outs. I purchased an addition set of HDR 180 to pair with the RS 180 transmitter. It was very easy and now I have two sets working perfectly for those times when I want to watch a movie with another person late at night…(continued)”
“…I’ve had the priveledge of hearing some the best headphones on the market both wired and wireless and I can honestly say, when it comes to sound quality, you will not find a wireless headphone that’s better…you would be hard pressed to find a headphone, even wired, that you could tell a noticeable in sound quality difference over the RS 180′s if you aren’t a headphone aficionado…(continued)”
Cons
Most of the criticisms against the Sennheiser RS180 pertain to the headphone buttons. Quite a few customers report that the volume/balance buttons on the headphone are too small or not easy to locate via feel alone, making them difficult to operate without removing the headphones from your head first.
On the other hand, many customers are not bothered by this inadequacy, or have managed to get used to it, as the following snippet from a 5-out-of-5 star customer review shows:
“…if you practice a bit.. you can feel the Volume Up..its big and angled. Rub your finger down and you feel the raised plastic of the POWER button. Well the next button is VOLUME down..Although not perfect, quite usable without taking the headsets off…And remember you can still control the volume from your audio source (Computer, Receiver, TV, etc) using its own remote. So no biggy for me…(continued)”
Sennheiser RS 180 Digital Wireless Headphones Review – The Bottomline
The Sennheiser RS 180 Digital Wireless Headphone is an excellent option for those wanting to watch movies or listen to music late at night without worry of waking the dead. Its high-quality stereo sound might not match many higher-end wired headphones, but is certainly one of the best for wireless ones.
