Sony MDR-DS6000 Wireless Headphones Review – Pros & cons
Pros
The Sony MDR-DS6000 Wireless Headphones feature an automatic power on/off function located on the head strap. Simply put on the headphones and they will automatically power up, and take them off to power them down.
These headphones are pretty comfortable with an open air design and self-adjustable headband, and many customers report being able to wear them comfortably for long periods of time without feeling much pressure on their heads.
As for sound quality, these do not compare to high-end wired headphones, but they certainly suffice for light movie viewing. Most customers are more than satisfied with the clear sound quality delivered by these headphones.
The Sony DS6000 cordless headphones currently have over 60 favorable reviews on Amazon.com. The following are snippets from 2 of these reviews:
“…I’ve always had issues making out what is being said on tv. It doesn’t matter how loud the volume is, I always miss out on some dialoge during a movie or program. Well with this headset on it’s like night and day. Everything is crystal cear. Bass and treble are very good. If your like me and miss out on some of what’s said get these…(continued)”
“…Sound is absolutely fabulous. Dolby and DTS 5.1 work beautifully. Battery lasts plenty long enough to enjoy evening of TV and movie. charges in about half the time it was used. Fit comfortably, although a little warm, not unbearable. The expanded sound field tends to take your mind off that…(continued)”
Cons
Unfortunately, quite a number of customers have experienced interference with other wireless devices that use the 2.4GHz frequency, including Apple TV and microwaves. Either their headphones stop working, or the other devices stop working when the headphones are turned on. Some have managed to find a workaround by “resetting” the frequencies on their headphones or the other devices.
On the other hand, several other customers have not noticed any such interference, as the following 5-out-of-5 star testimonial shows:
“…I have not experienced interference from other wireless systems in my home, nor from microwaves or refrigerators or whatnot. These headphones run on 2.4GHz RF. My home cordless phones are on the 5.8GHz RF range, I have a wireless Skype phone that operates on 1.9GHz, and my WiFi access point (802.11n) operates over both 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Other than the cordless phones, all other transmission bases are within 5 feet of each other and these headphones’ base unit. Note that I have my entire A/V system on a separate circuit with a UPS – that may help cut down on a lot of the interference other reviewers may have experienced…(continued)”
Sony MDR-DS6000 Wireless Headphones Review – The Bottomline
Ultimately, the Sony MDR-DS6000 Wireless Headphones are a good option if you are looking for a comfortable pair with a fairly wide range and good sound quality to watch TV or movies with. The interference with other wireless devices that some customers have reported can be a dealbreaker, although several other customers have reported not encountering any form of interference at all. If you can find a reputable merchant with a return policy on these headphones, they are worth at least trying out.
